Objectif

With the globalization of the economy, increased cross-border alliances, and global relocations and outsourcing - there is an increasing appreciation for managing cultural differences in order to ensure effective operations across borders. It is well documented that many companies have suffered massive losses through the mismanagement of international projects often due to failure to manage cultural differences. We are currently experiencing increasing contact of personnel and customers from diverse cultural backgrounds, an every growing demand for businesses to understand and manage the diverse values, perceptions, business worldviews, and behavior of corporations, staff, and their customers, and a necessity to effectively manage interaction of personnel and customers across boarders
Consequently, it is important that when doing business we consider the human and cultural elements and compatibility of the parties involved. Our credibility and effectiveness are always to some extent "culture-bound." This is because outside our native culture, our attitudes and actions do not necessarily mean the same thing that they do inside our native culture.
Within this course on “Intercultural Management” we will address this concept of culture as it relates to issues of intercultural competence, cultural identity and cultural diversity from a strategic, organizational, and marketing perspective; as well as the ethical issues that arise within the intercultural business activity of our global society. This course covers a cross-cultural comparison and interaction of management and the communication processes, cultural geographic distinctions, and antecedents that affect individuals, groups, and organizational behavior. And as such, we will explore in theory and practice management in different areas of the world.
Some areas we will consider include (but are not limited to):

• International Business Investment

• Developing Multi-Cultural Teams
• Dealing with Cross- Cultural Conflict
